Frequently Asked Questions
The Purifyxx Hydropod filter reduces chlorine, odors, and unwanted tastes while improving the overall quality of tap water. It is third party lab-tested to meet NSF 42 and 53 standards, ensuring cleaner, better-tasting water. To further see what the Hydropod removes check out our Testing and Certifications page!
The Hydropod filter uses an advanced activated carbon block filter and is designed to work only when attached to the straw. When you sip, water is pulled through the carbon block, reducing contaminants as it flows up the straw.
The filter does not work by simply sitting in the water—water must be drawn through it to be effectively filtered. This ensures that every sip you take is freshly filtered and ready to drink.
The HydroPod filter is designed to reduce fluoride levels to align with the acceptable standards set by the EPA, which regulates water quality in the U.S. While it doesn’t remove 99.99% of fluoride (which is challenging due to fluoride’s unique composition), it effectively lowers it to levels considered appropriate. We’ve worked hard to strike a balance between effective filtration and accessibility, ensuring you get clean and refreshing water.
Our Purifyxx HydroPod filter is built with 0.5-micron filtration technology, which means it can trap particles as small as this, including contaminants like microplastics. While we haven’t conducted specific testing for microplastic removal yet, research shows that filters like ours, which use activated carbon, are effective at capturing particles in this size range.
That said, we’re not stopping there. We’re already working on new products specifically designed to tackle microplastics, so we can offer even more peace of mind.
No, the filter is designed for plain tap water only. Using flavored drinks, electrolyte powders, or sugary beverages can clog the filter and reduce its effectiveness. If you want to drink other beverages, we recommend removing the filter and using the regular straw that is provided.
The Purifyxx HydroBottle includes two interchangeable straws for different drinking options:
Shorter straw – Used with the HydroPod filter, ensuring water is filtered before drinking.
Longer straw – For use without the filter, allowing you to drink other beverages like flavored water or sports drinks.
This design provides flexibility, so you can switch between filtered and non-filtered drinks as needed.
A slight carbon taste when using a new filter is normal and harmless. This is due to carbon fines (tiny black specks) that may be present in the filter. To eliminate this taste, the filter needs to be properly flushed before use.
How to flush the filter:
Rinse the filter under running water for a few seconds.
Insert the filter into the bottle.
Fill the bottle up with water.
Draw water through the straw five times, spitting out each sip.
The Hydropod filter lasts up to 75 gallons or 3 months , whichever comes sooner and depending on usage. If you notice a slower flow rate or a change in taste, it may be time to replace the filter.
If your HydroBottle is leaking, please check the following:
Ensure the flip-top lid is fully closed and pushed all the way down, sitting flush with the lid. If it’s not completely sealed, water may leak.
Make sure the flip straw is pushed all the way down and sits flush with the lid. If the straw isn’t fully lowered, it may prevent a proper seal.

When your HydroPod filter isn’t in use—such as between trips or during storage—here’s what we recommend:
Rinse the filter thoroughly with clean tap water.
Let it air dry completely to prevent moisture buildup.
Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to help preserve the integrity of the filter.
